Welfare. Food stamps. WIC. These can make a lot of people very happy. Or, they can tick a lot of people off. What I’m about to say about those government programs will probably also have people cheering or tick them off to the point of a lynching mob. I really don’t care about the latter. It’s my money I’m giving away to these people. Shouldn’t I have a say? And I say a drug test for every recipient and applicant should be mandated. And the strictest guidelines followed once a person is approved.

Something happened in January that has bothered the heck out of me. It was the radical left’s posterwoman Nancy Pelosi, saying that she is sure Newt Gingrich will never be nominated as the Republican to run for president against Barack Obama in November. Anyone watching the news clip of the interview could not avoid sensing that Pelosi was sincere in her prediction and that she seemed to be talking with absolute certainty of her facts. She did not say he would never become president, she said he would never be nominated.

And that is the worrying part.

Cell phones. They’ve been all over the news lately. The “scientists” and “researchers” of the world putting more negativity upon them and linking them to mankind’s own stupidity. It has come up to ban cell phone use, and cell phones in general, from vehicles. While I agree that cell phone use, mostly texting while driving, can hinder the operator’s ability to drive safely, banning the cell phone entirely, even hands free devices, is absolutely ludicrous.

Cell phones have been unfortunate in being blamed for the majority of accidents happening these days. I understand that texting while driving has become a major concern. Especially amongst the younger crowd. They can’t seem to put the phone down. I’m not necessarily the younger crowd, but I’m one of those who can’t seem to put the phone down. From texting or making phone calls, I know it’s not good and could potentially be dangerous, but I don’t really text too much while driving unless it’s to figure out plans or directions of where I’m driving to. Sometimes directions are needed, times have to be set, meeting places need to be confirmed. Sure, many of you are saying, “Pull over. Send your texts then and wait until you figure it all out before getting back on the road.” Well, sorry, I refuse to do that. If so, I could be sitting by myself for quite a while. And possibly not in the best part of town a girl should be in alone. So, sorry again. Get over it.

“Don’t play with drugs!” is the slogan of the last advertising campaign launched by Profero, a creative Internet agency. The slogan is part of the anti-drug strategy of the British Home Office and London’s Department of Health. The aim of the campaign is to inform young people and their families about the damage that drugs cause. www.marketingdirecto.com

This letter liberally references Brig. Gen. Jim Cash’s article entitled “Another Government Cover-up” in the January 2011 edition of Military. I agree with his assessment that the contrail observed off the coast of California in November 2010 resembled a missile launch contrail, not an aircraft contrail.

In the 1980′s Brig. Gen. Cash was a command director and assistant director of operations for the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD). NORAD is responsible for the detection and reporting of aircraft and missile threats to the President for action. Brig. Gen. Cash was a USAF fighter pilot for over 25 years.

For America to get back on track I think we need to change how we do things, and for that to happen we need to change the type of people we choose to lead us. We have to learn to not be pressurized into voting for the lesser of two evils as we have done for decades. And we have to learn to ignore the media lie that to vote your choice is to waste a vote. If neither the Democratic nominee or the Republican nominee will do a good job bringing America back on track, then why vote for them? If you vote or not will have the same result then why do it? But if you vote an outsider not supported by either the Republican or Democrat party that loses, even his defeat will send a message that you are not happy with the choices the parties are giving you. It is the undecided vote that swings elections and your no-vote will unnerve both parties so that next election they might nominate a candidate more to your liking. As things are now, both parties are screwing up the country in a colossal way. Both grow the federal government. Both borrow and spend too much. Both increase regulation which stifles entrepreneurship, the key to a healthy economy and new jobs. The choice given the voter by either party is no real choice at all, unless you are comfortable with the way it has always been. Romney will likely be chosen by the media and the Republican party leadership to face off with Obama for President. They want this guy because he is establishment friendly and can be trusted to not rock the boat. But is he a real choice for the American people?

It’s been almost a month since news broke of the disgusting action of the US Air Force dumping the remains of military personnel killed in action. A Washington Post investigation revealed Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the main portal for dead US service personnel being shipped back from Iraq and Afghanistan, was sending cremated remains to a Virginia landfill. The exact number of fallen service men and women is unknown because records were only retrievable since 2004 but it has been reported that the practice was standard procedure from 1996 to 2008. The Air Force, after public pressure, finally admitted to 274 individuals and at least 2700 body parts but the actual number will probably never be known and could be much higher.

We are told, and have come to accept, that the Occupy movement lacks focus, direction, and purpose. How can a group be successful without a linear plan and a list of demands? How does camping in a park solve the world’s problems? Onlookers often say that in the last two months, Occupy has yet to accomplish anything. As we come to Thanksgiving, however, I want to offer seven reasons to give thanks for the Occupy movement.

It is becoming more obvious that neither the Democratic or the Republican Party leadership is serious about cutting federal government spending or downsizing operations to balance the budget with no additional borrowing. Forget paying off some of the more than $15 trillion debt already accumulated, both parties seem not to want to actually cut anything. They seem to have become comfortable with opposing each other’s policies on the pretext of appearing to be representing their constituents wishes, causing stalemates that gives each party what they really want, business and spending as usual. The actual difference between them in regard to the person on the street and his demand to reign in government spending, is becoming narrower by the moment. Unfortunately for conservatives, the leadership of the Republican party has moved left to where the Democrat party used to be, and the leadership of the Democrat party has become more socialist left. Both entities, encouraged by the liberal media, now regard ordinary conservatives as right wing fanatics and ordinary liberals as mainstream conservative America. Confusing, but true. Could it be that this gradual moving of the bar to the left pleases those in power because they all get an equal slice of an artificially bloated pie. Continuing the appearance of healthy opposition while in fact supporting the same agenda; more borrowing and spending.

I’m just going to start off by saying this could get me into a heap of trouble, but regardless, I’m not a people person. Not by far. Crowds can send me into an anxiety fit from the underworld and rude, pushy, manner-less people can send me into a black-out rage that could temporarily put Hades out of a job. People irritate the daylights out of me. And so much more so during holiday shopping. I guess that’s why it seems so unfitting for me to have taken a holiday retail job.
