Freedom is taken for granted by most Americans today. Only the aging seem concerned that liberty for the individual is disappearing at a rate guaranteeing servitude to most of the U.S. population within a few decades. The younger generation do not seem to notice the gradual erosion of individual liberties, often supporting the removal of freedoms as a convenient way to force change that appears for one moment in time to be a reasonable solution to society’s ills. This writer is a British born American that in the span of three decades has witnessed the whittling away of personal liberty the United States was renowned for. It is saddening to watch complacency destroy liberty, a non renewable resource that allowed mankind to emerge from its tyrannical feudal past. American people in general do not see a problem with the direction our political leaders and government are taking our country. Many retain an attitude of so long as they are not too adversely affected, why worry.

The date of writing this editorial is February 26, just days before a mandatory sequestration that was designed to force the US Congress to come up with real measures to cut government spending sufficiently to address the rapidly rising national debt. The sequestration requires reduction of government spending of $85-120 billion a year for 10 years but was linked to the estimated cost government would rise at its present rate. The federal government spent $3.6 trillion in 2012, just over a trillion of which was borrowed, bringing the total national debt to $16.5 trillion. Approximately $2.5 trillion in 2012 spending came from taxpayers, the rest was put on the tab. Congress, both Democrat and Republican have not only been unable to agree on an actual budget for years, they have also continued to borrow an extra trillion or so every year just to make ends meet. Presently, almost a third of what they spend is borrowed money.

Liberal “Facts” and “Definitions” – Excuse me while I weep tears of frustration for their stupidity.
by Ashley Murphy
We live in a world full of stupidity. Especially on the political front. I have never, in my life, heard some of the garbage that is spewing about in our political world, from the right and left. Democrats call the Republicans stupid, Republicans call the Democrats morons. As most of you know, based on stances I’ve taken in previous articles, I’m very Conservative politically. Both sides have had their fair share of brainless moments, but it’s those radical liberals that make me shake my head, and at times, cry out of frustration.
Recently, I had one of those crying moments. I can get emotional at times. I was so unbelievably frustrated at the sheer stupidity of this Obama worshipper (no exaggeration) that I broke down in a heap of sobs and expletives. This person, who shall be named Mr. T, is a “friend” on my Facebook page (no names, he’d probably get all huffy and sue). He’s an American soldier (of which I am appreciative) and genuinely seems like a nice guy outside of the political world. But…he is, in my opinion, a radical liberal. Based on posts and pictures that have appeared on Facebook by him, I’ve come to the conclusion that he would kiss Obama’s feet and worship the ground he walks on. It’s disturbing.

America was a truly remarkable nation. Rising from an unwinnable revolution against a repressive but powerful world leader, this new country invented a constitutional republic different from anything seen before. Its constitution was written specifically to allow the individual to live and prosper without undue restrictions from government. The founders proved their faith in the individual over the power of government by endowing each person with specific inalienable rights, and so, America was born to lead the world in almost all aspects of human endeavor for the next 200 years.

Conservatives and liberals are split almost equally on every belief they have. Then why is it that liberals always seem to get what they want when lines are drawn? Even when the split is not equal they seem to win. There must be a reason.
Enter the GOP and the Democrat party.
The GOP is led by a bunch of good ol’ boy republicans that have no real principles apart from making money and being powerful. And, the Democrats are led by a bunch of radicals that really believe big government and socialized services are better for humanity despite historical proof.
At least the Democrat party act on the beliefs of liberals. What are the GOP good for if they are not representing conservatives?

For those of you who don’t already know, I immigrated to this country with my wife and children more than 30 years ago. It was one of God’s blessings that could never be repaid.
My homeland was the UK, England to most of you. I still have family and friends there even though I have not visited since the 80′s. I am told that my English accent lingers on, and the truth is I am still very attached to my heritage. I enjoy news from there and I like to watch movies showing how England looks now. All in all, I am proud the Bruits are some of American’s most loyal friends. I do believe they genuinely wish the best for us and identify with our achievements, but some things about them really get under my skin. Take the self righteous attitude of CNN talk show host, Piers Morgan, who is also from the UK. I am so embarrassed by his criticism of our Second Amendment rights and the arrogance displayed suggesting changes to our supreme law. I don’t personally object to his opinion, more the arrogance with which it is given. Guns, especially handguns, have been banned from ownership by all but the most privileged British since the time of WW1. It is true that if you talk to the average Brit they support the ban. So the consensus is without question and they are quick to point that out. What is annoying is their firm belief that what is good for them must also be good for us. My family members have no compunction joining Mr Morgan with their belief that America follow the UK’s lead and ban guns. Saves lives they say.
This job requires I read lots on all subjects, including gun control. Not once have I read or heard an American tell the British to adopt the right to bear arms, or tell any other country for that matter. I imagine Mr. Morgan would be outraged at the suggestion, and rightly so. What is good for us may not be good for them, so why does he feel it OK to insult us with his beliefs. And why is he so sure we want to hear him tell us something we could only know if we were British and smart like him?
As I have said, sometimes it is embarrassing to have a British accent. On Piers Morgan’s behalf, please accept my apologies for him being a pr*ck.

Piers Morgan has become the authentic voice of Europeans on gun control. It’s not that he’s particularly eloquent – he comes off like a haughty English tourist demanding his way to the airport in pidgin French. But he does articulate common liberal concerns on the issue, wrapped up in assumptions that suggest he doesn’t quite get the country that he’s living in. Piers provided a rare moment of insight when he recently admitted that banning assault weapons “will not solve the gun crime problem in America” – and he captured the myopic authoritarianism of his breed perfectly when he immediately added that Americans should do it anyway. Why? Because they can and they must. It’s the right thing to do. Better than that, it’s what the British would do.

On the home page of this publication is a December 23rd Chattanooga Times Free Press report titled “Feds: Life Care plan started at top”, which contains a synopsis of federal fraud charges bought against Cleveland based Life Care Centers of America. Among the charges are that Life Care engaged in a widespread scheme to defraud Medicare and tried to cover up wrongdoing by punishing employees who complained of the possible illegal practices. The cost of Medicare is being blamed for a large part of the US budget deficit and lawmakers are demanding Medicare fraud be stopped, but it seems in this case the federal prosecution team which includes Elizabeth Tonkin, who works in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee in the Knoxville office, is being less than enthusiastic in the prosecution process. Her team unnecessarily sealed the case from public scrutiny causing criticism from a federal judge. It seems to be an example of federal prosecutors themselves attempting to cover up a Medicare fraud case they were investigating.

A topic I’m tired of hearing about….sometimes I think my eyes and ears literally bleed from all the garbage spewing out, again, recently. Ignorant people are still thinking guns should be banned from this country. Others are still saying we need more gun control. Abolish guns! Restrict guns! Limit these killers! Whatever. I can discuss gun control until I’m blue in the face. It isn’t going to help. But then again, it may help the liberals. I mean, if I turn blue in the face and die, then they can have my guns….
Gun control. In addition to being unconstitutional (taking away guns altogether), it will not work! No, I’m not stupid, or crazy or ignorant. You are, however, if you believe further restrictions on law abiding citizens’ gun rights will solve this nation’s problems. It won’t.

In the wake of a monstrous crime like a madman’s mass murder of defenseless women and children at the Newtown, Conn., elementary school, the nation’s attention is riveted on what could have been done to prevent such a massacre.
Luckily, some years ago, two famed economists, William Landes at the University of Chicago and John Lott at Yale, conducted a massive study of multiple victim public shootings in the United States between 1977 and 1995 to see how various legal changes affected their frequency and death toll.
