Commission Says Good-bye to 5 Commissioners
by Ashley Murphy

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Monday night's County Commission meeting was the last for five of the twelve commissioners. The recent election led to the departure of Commissioners Jim Smith, Lisa Stanbery and Michael Plumley. Commissioner Ben Atchley chose not to run for re-election and Willodyne Smith has been filling in for her husband, Roy Smith, who retired at the end of last year.

All departing commissioners were presented a plaque during the meeting to commemorate their years of service to Bradley County. All commissioners expressed their thanks for time served, memories made and friends had.

Plumley made a quick statement requesting the Building and Land Committee "get a handle" on county assets. He wants them to take care of all items in way of building and land and not let them deteriorate beyond repair. This statement was most likely made in reference to the old McDonald School building, which Plumley was very passionate about.

The Road Committee will meet on Monday, September 6th at 6 p.m. in Amy Moore's office, while the Planning Committee will meet at 6 p.m. in the Commission Room of the Courthouse.

A Finance Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 6th, also, but immediately following adjournment of the regular County Commission Meeting which will meet at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse.
