Wasting money again

Every once in a while County Executive (sorry "Mayor") Gary Davis utters a statement that makes complete sense. On one such occasion recently he said that he would like it explained why after saying they needed extra money for urgent safety repairs to Bradley Central High School, the Board of Education first spent money on replacing bleachers and restoring the gymnasium floor.

This editor is 100% behind Davis on this one. It is my belief that Bradley County has the school board from hell. Excluding Mel Griffith and Miles Howard, the rest are an amazing bunch who seem always to turn reason on its head, and believe you make friends by bullying people. And they have absolutely no idea how to manage money - zero.

At a special called meeting to discuss the Bradley County High School renovations contract, 4th District School Board member Troy Weathers made a remarkable statement that  highlights why the school system is in such a mess. When Sandy Wallis made a motion to remove $443,291.00 from the new lighting line item and use it to help pay for a new roof, Weathers said he was against it because "we need the place to look like we've done something."

This man, who is trusted with not only the future of Bradley's children, but responsible for spending $10's of millions of taxpayers money, wants to spend almost half million dollars just to make him look good. The roof by the way is less than 10 years old but is expected to be damaged during the renovations and D, F, Chase, the construction company overseeing the project refuses to accept responsibility.

So my friends, this is how the school board operates, they waste money in order to look good and they hire a company to ensure the project is done correctly, but not the whole project. Seems like if they are going to let sub-contractors damage the roof they may not be the company for the job.

A final thought

Has this been a supreme month for brushing things under the carpet, or what!!!
