United States of America, Are You Still Here?

Letter to the Editor:

Here we are again, questioning what is happening to our great country, and why no one is doing anything to save it. Yes, you heard right, no one is listening or cares, except Joe the Plumber and a few others. Who is listening about the drug problem overflowing from Mexico, across our borders and into our cities?

Recently CNN gave a count of 182 American cities being home to Mexican Drug Cartel activity and violence. I daresay that is a very low count, and I am surprised that much was revealed.

American citizens are being kidnapped. Our law enforcement agencies do not have enough man power or funds to stem the flow. Our new Border Czar did what all government officials seem to do, avoid direct answers on how to solve this problem. He gave general, non-meaningful answers that kept him looking good, but didn't give interested citizens anything in which to sink their teeth.

Another area in which people are not listening is the continuing outsourcing of jobs and factories to other countries. Even after the bailout and billions, I didn't stutter, billions of dollars being given to help companies too big to fail, there is no shame in removing more jobs from the people who support them. Yes, that is the thanks you get for your tax dollars.

Just look at GM and what their plans include. Let me see if I have this right... GM is planning on closing factories here in the United States, moving production to another country, then returning to the USA to sell their products to out of work, USA citizens. Now tell me how that is going to work in the world of economics?

Have you been waking up at three A.M. and wondering why you can't sleep? I know why I can't sleep and it is because there is something going on underneath all this lack of concern and my brain has been trying to make sense of this insanity.

I think my brain may have gone into overdrive and discovered some relationship to the border problems, the drug cartels and outsourcing.

Outsourcing involves other countries, natural resources, and cheap labor. It involves another government and another culture. Also it involves agreeable trade practices, trust, and financial gain.

Let us see where we stand with all this.

Mexico, China, India, and the Middle Eastern countries have natural resources the corporations want and cheap labor. Products being imported into our country don't have tariffs and financial gains are tax free in off-shore accounts. Sounds like a pretty good deal. And billions of tax dollars are given to bail out corporations, by their home government, because they are too big to fail.

It doesn't matter that they reported unheard of financial gains and gave millions and millions away to top employees. We are all to turn a blind eye to this insanity.

Now let's see how this ties in with our borders, drug cartels and violence. You really want to know why no one is listening?

It is because the corporations don't want anything done to close the borders, end the drug business and violence. We are to turn our eyes blind, so the corporations can keep their outsourced factories from being seized by the government of the country they have invaded. You heard right. Don't bite the hand that gives you your billions, except of course, you can bite the hand of your own countrymen, they don't count.

So from all of this, I deduce that our government employees will continue to kiss Mexico's, China's, N. Korea's, Pakistan's, Iran's, Saudi Arabia's, India's, England's, Russia's, and Israel's butts to make up for the toxic waste we sold them and regain their trust in our business practices.

My advice to all my American neighbors, you had better figure out a way of protecting yourself, growing your own food, learning to barter with your neighbor, and refusing to buy products that are outsourced and put you and your neighbor out of work.

Get a spine and help put an end to this insanity.

- Valerie Gamblin, Cleveland, TN
