Hidden tax

It has just been announced that Charter  Communications, the cable company, will pay $45,000 more to  the City of Cleveland for its franchise fee (tax) for the benefit of operating within the city and that the extra money derived from the windfall will help bolster flagging and failing non-profit quasi-government companies like the Five Points Museum, MainStreet Cleveland and Keep America Beautiful. This new money was not disclosed in the city budget but allows the non-profit companies to receive the full budget requests removed in the official city budget.

This money is an indirect tax on cable subscribers as are all fees imposed by government. If the cable company has to pay the City of Cleveland an extra $45,000 then who do you think will foot the bill?

Here's hoping that your hard earned cash will be spent wisely by these unpopular entities.

That's what I think. What do you think?

Was that dumb, or what?

Any business person will tell you that you don't fire a 20 year employee while he is on sick leave unless you like to lose a lawsuit. The Bradley County Election Commission are either bone head stupid or are setting the county up for an expensive lawsuit. They allowed Director of Elections David Ellis, to take sick leave but not return to work after being discharged by his doctor. I have no respect for David Ellis, in fact after investigating election irregularities in his office it is my opinion that he has not conducted an honest and secure election for years, but he should not be fired while on sick leave. It is against the law and it is not right and [former] Chairman of the Bradley County Election Commission Richard Elliston, who is by profession an attorney, should know that.

I believe Bradley County taxpayers are about to get conned if Ellis is not given his job back. Ellis could have been fired legally for incompetence a dozen times in the last ten years and there would have been no repercussions. It seems mighty strange that an Election Commission who have protected him for years suddenly make such a stupid decision that is in all probability going to make him a rich man.

Give him  back his job, wait for him to screw up again, then fire him in disgrace.

That's what I think. What do you think?
